Nearly 100 volunteers serving OFH on Day of Caring 2012

WHO:  Nearly 100 community members from local businesses — Associated Electric Cooperative Inc. (AECI), Bank of America, City of Springfield and City Utilities — are giving time to Ozarks Food Harvest (OFH) on United Way’s Day of Caring 2012 next Thursday, August 28.

WHAT:  Day of Caring 2012, a United Way of the Ozarks initiative

WHEN:  Thursday, Aug. 23, 2012

8:30–11:30 a.m.

  • Community Food Drive for OFH at Walmart Neighborhood Markets in Springfield (addresses below) — Five City Utilities employees & an OFH truck will be at each locatio
  • Sort & Repack project (of bulk food donations) — 10 City of Springfield (4th floor) employees will build the boxes in OFH’s Volunteer Center
  • “Hope Notes” project for the Weekend Backpack Program — 10 Bank of America employees will create the inserts in OFH’s Community Room

1–4 p.m.

  • Weekend Backpack Program food bag assembly — 10 City Utilities employees will build the food bags in OFH’s warehouse

  • “Hope Notes” project for the Weekend Backpack Program — 10 Bank of America employees will create the inserts in OFH’s Community Room

WHERE:   O’Reilly Center for Hunger Relief, 2810 N. Cedarbrook Ave., Springfield, Mo., Walmart Neighborhood Market, 1320 S. Glenstone Ave., Springfield, Mo. and Walmart Neighborhood Market, 3150 W. Republic Rd., Springfield, Mo.

WHY:  The United Way Day of Caring 2012 is the area’s largest, one-day volunteer event, and is sponsored by Bass Pro, Chase and Mercy this year. More than 1,500 volunteers from 80 local businesses completed 175 projects for 40 nonprofits last year. Ozarks Food Harvest is not a United Way agency.
