Saturday events to benefit OFH during Hunger Action Month

September 18, 2008

SPRINGFIELD, Mo.— As part of Hunger Action Month, volunteers from Ozark Food Harvest and KTTS will be stationed at Battlefield Mall collecting food Saturday, September 20th and Sunday, September 21st.

Volunteers will be taking donations from noon until 6 pm both days in the southeast corner of the mall parking lot, near the corner of Glenstone Avenue and Battlefield Road.

All donations collected go towards The Food Bank’s goal of raising more than 100,000 lbs. of food during September, which is Hunger Action Month nationwide.

Also, Saturday evening (September 20th), KTTS will sponsor the weekly racing season finale at Lucas Oil Speedway in Wheatland, Missouri (located off state highway 83).

Spectators who bring two canned goods to the race get free admission and all proceeds go to Ozarks Food Harvest and the Hunger Action Month goal.  Gates open at 5 pm; race starts at 7 pm.

Both of these events help tie up month-long educational efforts designed to increase the understanding of Hunger, both nationwide and in the Ozarks.

Throughout Hunger Action Month, Public Service Announcements have run throughout KTTS broadcasts locally.  Nationally, country music star Phil Vassar has helped spread awareness through PSA’s on Country Music Television (CMT).
