20th annual Turkey Trot brings in 6,000 meals
The largest Thanksgiving Day 5K in Missouri continues to be one of the largest annual food drives for Ozarks Food Harvest.
The total collected for Turkey Trot this year was 7,245 pounds, providing 6,037 meals to children, families and seniors in need.
Since 2001, the event which raises funds for the The Springfield–Greene County Park Board and the Developmental Center of the Ozarks, has collected nearly 70,000 pounds of food for OFH — more than 55,000 meals — by accepting nonperishable food items from runners, walkers and volunteers.
This year’s donation was nearly one pound of food per participant.
