Glean Team harvests 20,000 pounds of produce

November 21, 2015 in Harvest Time Newsletter

Ozarks Food Harvest’s Glean Team wrapped up its second season in November — harvesting 20,358 pounds of produce.

Volunteers spent over 1,400 hours working in area gardens to provide nearly 17,000 meals to hungry individuals in the Ozarks.

With the successful relocation of an additional high tunnel, similar to a greenhouse, the team hopes to expand its growing season next year by another 5,000 pounds, or more.

Since starting the Glean Team in June 2014, volunteers have spent 1,700 hours harvesting more than 40,000 pounds of produce.

Community members are encouraged to plant an extra row in their home gardens and donate the produce to Ozarks Food Harvest — a great way to provide fresh and healthy food to your neighbors in need.

The Glean Team will take a break over the winter months, but if you are interested in volunteering next year, fill out an application and indicate gardening as a skill.

Ozarks Food Harvest staff hope to begin prepping the gardens for spring harvest in February.
