Travel company fights hunger right here in the Ozarks

What do travel and volunteering have in common? Alex Brozowski from Expedia sums it up like this, “Travel lets us see how, at the end of the day, we all have the same basic needs.” And what need is more basic than food? During Expedia’s Month of Caring in September, employees made the connection by volunteering to pack food at Ozarks Food Harvest.

Expedia Group believes travel is a force for good. Traveling helps us connect to people around the world, but Expedia also recognizes the importance of giving back in their local communities. That’s why they give employees the opportunity to volunteer during their Global Month of Caring.

This September, 96 Expedia employees helped sort and pack food so it could be distributed to our neighbors facing hunger. Their hard work provided more than 60,000 meals to children, families and seniors in southwest Missouri.

After their volunteer session, Alex and his teammates toured The Food Bank, where Alex realized, “I think something that was shown very clearly through what your organization does is that, if we put in the effort, we can achieve a lot. The volunteer work that’s done is really critical because there’s so much complexity to what you guys do.”

He’s right. It’s sometimes hard to comprehend how many people in our communities are facing hunger, and it can feel like an issue that’s too big to tackle. But The Food Bank exists because we believe every person deserves access to the food they need to thrive, and our volunteers are crucial to ending hunger in southwest Missouri.

As Alex explained, “As a community, we can provide for everyone, but it does take effort to do.”

Thank you to every Expedia volunteer who helped ensure their neighbors have access to nourishing food – the basic need that connects us all. Your efforts both at work and at The Food Bank are keeping us connected to our neighbors here at home and around the world.
