SPRINGFIELD, Mo.— Southwest Missouri Boy Scout and Cub Scout units will collect food donations from community neighborhoods on Saturday, March 8, to benefit Ozarks Food Harvest and the more than 41,000 people the food bank reaches monthly.

On Saturday, March 1, Scouts will distribute door hangers throughout neighborhoods in Springfield, Ozark and Nixa, asking community members to place bags filled with non-perishable food items on doorsteps on the following Saturday, March 8, according to Brian Wilfong of Ozarks Trails Boy Scouts Council.

The scouts will gather the bags of food donations and deliver them to Ozarks Food Harvest’s warehouse in Springfield.

For 19 years, Ozarks Boy Scouts have conducted the “Scouting for Food” food drive, which collects nearly 5,000 pounds of food annually for Ozarks Food Harvest, according to The Food Bank.

“Ozarks Food Harvest is proud of these Boy Scouts, who every year, help put food on the tables for families in our area that need support, while discovering the value of helping others,” Denise Gibson, development director for OFH said.

Community members who do not receive a “Scouting for Food” bag, can contribute to the Boy Scouts project by bringing donations marked for the scouts to Ozarks Food Harvest at 615 N. Glenstone on or by March 8.
