SPRINGFIELD, Mo.— MSU service sorority, Gamma Sigma Sigma, is hosting its 8th annual “Spike Out Hunger” event, a 12-hour hunger strike designed to raise awareness of hunger in the Ozarks and collect food donations for Ozarks Food Harvest, on Friday, November 3 and Saturday, November 4, 2006.

Participants agree to go on an overnight hunger strike and gather food donations from friends, family, and the community, and bring them to the event. The strike will begin on Friday, November 3 at 7 p.m. at Missouri State’s Hammons Student Center, with registration taking place from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. Individuals are invited to kick off  the event at the 7 p.m. MSU Lady Bears’ volleyball game, and then enjoy a number of other fun activities planned to keep the strikers’ minds off food while they are fasting. Community members who wish to participate in the food drive may bring food donations to Hammons Student Center’s South entrance Friday, November 3.
