Red Gold donates 16,000 pounds of tomatoes
Donation held to unveil Red Gold larger-than-life billboard campaign
SPRINGFIELD, Mo— One of The Food Bank’s largest tomato donations from Red Gold (16,000 pounds) will occur at 11:00 am, Thursday, Feb 25 at The Food Bank’s food distribution facility. The donation will be held in conjunction with the unveiling of the country’s largest tomato cans on an over-sized 3-D billboard placed in Springfield.
The 16-foot-tall Red Gold tomato cans, located just north of James River Freeway on US 65, are capable of holding more than 100,000 normal store cans. To kickoff the debut of this attraction, Red Gold will donate eight tons of tomato products to Ozarks Food Harvest.
“We wanted to do something dramatic” said Greg Metzger, Director of Marketing at Red Gold. “We thought that oversized tomatoes and vines were a great way to reinforce the big tomato taste of Red Gold Brand canned tomatoes. And, even more importantly, making a donation to Ozarks Food Harvest in Springfield.”
Red Gold is donating 16,000 pounds of products including whole tomatoes, crushed tomatoes, and tomato sauce. The donation will allow The Food Bank to provide 12,800 meals to the 155,000 people it serves annually.
“This tomato donation from Red Gold will allow the families that we serve to make healthy meals that they can stretch,” said Denise Gibson, Director of Development for The Food Bank. “This is a blessing for our food pantries who are scrambling for donations .”
