Five tons of chicken accepted at Ozarks Food Harvest

January 3, 2007

WHAT:  Smart Chicken® delivery of 10,000 pounds of chicken – a $14,000 value – to Ozarks Food Harvest, the only food bank in Southwest Missouri

WHERE:  Ozarks Food Harvest warehouse, 615 N. Glenstone, Springfield, MO

WHEN:  Thursday, January 4, 2007 at 9 a.m.

SPRINGFIELD, Mo.— Ozarks Food Harvest will receive a donation of more than 5 tons of frozen chicken valued at $14,000 from MBA Brand Smart Chicken® on Thursday, January 4, 2007 at 9 a.m. as a result of the company’s Feed the Hungry promotion.

This was the fourth year for Smart Chicken® to conduct this program.  For every ten pounds of product purchased during the month of November in participating grocery stores, the company pledged one pound of Smart Chicken® to be donated to Ozarks Food Harvest.

This will be the largest donation ever received from Smart Chicken®, according to Development Director Denise Gibson. “This comes at an ideal time – right after the conclusion of the holiday giving period and will help many people begin a better new year with protein on their tables,” Gibson said.

Gibson said protein is the single most needed food category for The Food Bank, but unfortunately large donations of protein items are extremely rare.

This large donation from Smart Chicken® illustrates the need for a larger facility.  Ozarks Food Harvest recently publicly unveiled its capital campaign to build a new regional distribution center to feed more hungry people across the Ozarks.
