Can-struction helping build healthier Ozarks families

October 6, 2008

SPRINGFIELD, Mo.— Dozens of Missouri State University students will spend much of their Wednesday afternoon trying to build a better future for food insecure families in the Ozarks.

As part of Missouri State’s homecoming festivities, groups of students will participate in a “Canstruction” competition.  Each team will have three and a half hours to build a structure made entirely of canned and boxed food items.

After each entry has been judged and a winner announced, the participating groups will donate all of the food items to Ozarks Food Harvest.

The competing teams comprise of members from different university organizations.  Currently, 19 groups have registered for the event.

Teams are allowed to begin construction at noon, on Wednesday October 8th, in the north mall of the Missouri State campus (North of Plaster Student Union, next to the bronze bear statue).  Judging will begin at 3:30 pm.

Also in support of Ozarks Food Harvest will be “Rock Star MSU” on Tuesday night, October 7th.  The entry fee to watch this talent show is one food item.  Again, all food collected will be donated to Ozarks Food Harvest.

“Rock Star MSU” will begin at 8:00 pm in the Plaster Student Union Theatre.
