Dillon stores helping community with National Hunger Awareness food drive

SPRINGFIELD, Mo.— To commemorate National Hunger Awareness Day, Dillons, a subsidiary of Kroger, is launching a food drive to benefit Ozarks Food Harvest and America’s Second Harvest. Dillons’ food drive, May 27 through June 10, starts off a series of special hunger awareness events in the Ozarks, and will help spread awareness about hunger in our community.
As a valued partner and supporter of Ozark Food Harvest’s Food for Thought TM program, Dillons is dedicated to helping Ozarks Food Harvest Transform Hunger Into Hope. The Food Bank’s crucial children’s backpack feeding program is expensive because the backpacks are filled with specific child friendly foods. Dillons offers The Food Bank special pricing on food such as easy-open pasta meals and single serving soups. Ozarks Food Harvest truly relies on this generous support from Dillons. To further support hunger relief, Dillons is encouraging its customers to make a donation of a non-perishable food item at the door. Shoppers can also round up their sale total to the next dollar, with proceeds benefiting Ozarks Food Harvest.
In recognition of National Hunger Awareness Day, Dillons will be airing public service announcements recorded by local Clear Channel radio personalities on their in-store radio, and running informational ads about hunger and Ozarks Food Harvest in their in-store sales flyers. The announcements will inform shoppers about hunger in the Ozarks and reiterate the importance of Hungerthon 2006, Ozarks Food Harvest’s 8th annual radio telethon.
Dillons’ food drive, May 27 through June 10, will begin and end the series of National Hunger Awareness Day hunger awareness events for Southwest Missouri and North Central Arkansas. The finale of the Dillons food drive will be a special contribution to the Springfield Cardinals food drive, sponsored by American Family Insurance, at the home games Saturday and Sunday June 10 and 11. Dillons is providing an entire pallet of food to help inspire fans to make donations, and to guarantee the success of the “Strike Out Hunger” event.
