Food bank and grocer campaign to feed hungry ends Dec. 31

December 10, 2007

SPRINGFIELD, Mo.— More than 70 grocery and convenience stores are collecting donations for Ozarks Food Harvest’s annual, Ozarks-wide campaign to feed the hungry.

Shoppers have until December 31 to make a tax-free donation with their purchase at Akin’s, Dillon’s, Harter House, Murfin’s Market, Price Cutter, Ramey’s, Smillie’s, Smitty’s, Summer Fresh and Woods Supermarkets.

Cash donations can also be placed in collection boxes at area Cody’s Convenience Stores.

Customers’ contributions will help Ozarks Food Harvest distribute food to its 323 agencies, reaching nearly 40,000 people each month in 29 southwest Missouri counties.

For every dollar raised, meals are provided for seven people, Ozarks Food Harvest says.

According to The Food Bank, more than 150,000 people in the Ozarks are at-risk of hunger, and 50,000 are children.

Ozarks Food Harvest distributes more than four million pounds of food annually to its network of hunger relief partners, and also offers direct relief through its Kids Cafe, Food for Thought, Club F.U.N. and Mobile Food Pantry programs.
