Letter Carriers Annual Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive set for May 11
SPRINGFIELD, Mo. — The National Association of Letter Carriers (NALC) will hold its 32nd annual Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive on Saturday, May 11 for families facing hunger across the Ozarks.
Stamp Out Hunger is the country’s largest single-day food drive that provides local residents with a simple way to help their neighbors facing hunger. Donations made in southwest Missouri will benefit Ozarks Food Harvest’s network of faith-based and community charities spread across a 28-county service area.
To participate, residents can leave a bag of nonperishable food next to their mailboxes on the morning of May 11 and letter carriers will collect the donations as they deliver mail along their postal routes. The food will then be distributed to local hunger-relief organizations across southwest Missouri.
“United Way believes in the power of collaboration,” said Greg Burris, president/CEO of United Way of the Ozarks. “Because of our partnership with the National Association of Letter Carriers and Ozarks Food Harvest, collections made during the Stamp Out Hunger food drive will help children and families throughout our community who are facing hunger.”
With 1 in 7 children and adults in the Ozarks facing hunger, the Stamp Out Hunger food drive makes a big impact by providing thousands of meals in local communities.
“Stamp Out Hunger is one of our largest food drives every year, and it comes at a great time as we are experiencing a greater demand for food than during the height of the pandemic,” said Bart Brown, president/CEO of Ozarks Food Harvest. “We’re so grateful for our partnership with the National Association of Letter Carriers and United Way to help us serve more families across the Ozarks.”
Last year, Springfield letter carriers collected nearly 140,000 meals for distribution to local hunger-relief organizations.
