Letter Carriers Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive set for May 9
SPRINGFIELD, Mo. — The National Association of Letter Carriers (NALC) will hold its 34th annual Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive on Saturday, May 9 to help feed families facing hunger across the Ozarks.
Stamp Out Hunger is the country’s largest single-day food drive that provides local residents with a simple way to help their neighbors facing hunger. Donations made in southwest Missouri will benefit Ozarks Food Harvest’s network of 270 faith-based and community charities.
To participate, residents can leave a bag of nonperishable food by their mailboxes on the morning of May 9, and letter carriers will collect the donations as they deliver mail. The food will then be distributed to local hunger-relief organizations across southwest Missouri.
“Hunger is a challenge we can meet together,” said Brandi VanAntwerp, president and CEO of United Way Ozarks Region. “The Stamp Out Hunger food drive shows the power of neighbors helping neighbors. Through this partnership with the National Association of Letter Carriers and Ozarks Food Harvest, our community is turning compassion into action — and making a real difference for local families. When we come together, every bag of food helps build a stronger Ozarks.”
In Ozarks Food Harvest’s service area, 1 in 5 children and 1 in 6 adults face hunger.
“This food drive is so important for our neighbors, especially as grocery prices continue to increase,” said Bart Brown, president and CEO of Ozarks Food Harvest. “We’re so grateful to the National Association of Letter Carriers and United Way Ozarks Region for helping us ensure families in southwest Missouri can put food on the table.”
Last year, letter carriers collected nearly 132,000 meals in The Food Bank’s service area for distribution to local hunger-relief organizations.
