McDonald’s of the Ozarks giving away free coffee for donations to Food Bank

SPRINGFIELD, Mo.— McDonald’s locations across the Ozarks will host Cans for Coffee 2012 food drive Oct. 29 through Nov. 18, offering customers one free small McCafé® Premium Roast Coffee, Mocha, Latte, Hot Chocolate or Iced Coffee in exchange for a canned good for Ozarks Food Harvest.

Patrons are asked to bring nonperishable food donations — such as canned tuna, soups, beans, vegetables or fruit — to the front counter or drive-thru window at any local McDonald’s restaurant to receive one free small McCafé® coffee or hot chocolate of their choice.

More than 60 local McDonald’s participate in Cans for Coffee 2012. Ozarks Food Harvest distributes the food to local pantries and kitchens to help feed families and seniors in need during the upcoming holiday season.

“McDonald’s of the Ozarks is helping give hope to those families in our communities who struggle with the complex issue of hunger,” said OFH President/CEO Bart Brown. “Although hunger can be an invisible problem, one in six individuals in southwest Missouri is at-risk of food insecurity, and helping is easy. People can simply purchase extra peanut butter, a can of tuna or soup and donate it to their neighborhood McDonald’s. Their gift will give our hurting neighbors something to truly be thankful for.”

Last year, Cans for Coffee 2011 made OFH history, becoming the largest annual (non-disaster related) food drive, collecting more than 36,000 pounds of food. Since 2008, this McDonald’s food drive has collected more than 85,000 pounds of food — or more than 70,000 meals — for Ozarks Food Harvest and its 250 member agencies across 28 Missouri counties.
