Model Train Club Tooting its Horn in support of Ozarks Food Harvest

September 10, 2008

SPRINGFIELD, Mo.— To help stock The Food Bank’s shelves, the Ozark Garden Railway Society is asking everyone who attends this weekends annual model railroad tour to bring food for Ozarks Food Harvest.

This will be the eighth annual model train club tour held by the southwest Missouri organization, but the first to support Ozarks Food Harvest.

The tour will run throughout the coming weekend, beginning the evening of Friday, September 12th and continuing throughout much of Saturday, September 13th. About a dozen society members have already committed to participate in the event, with each setting their own hours of operation.

Those interested in making self-guided stops on this tour can get a map of all the train sites at the Garden Railway Supply Depot on Kearney and Glenstone or at any site during the weekend.

There is no fee to visit the model train sites, however Ozark Garden Railway Society members will be taking cash donations for Ozarks Food Harvest or are asking visitors to bring nonperishable food items for The Food Bank.  Proceeds from the sale of tour maps will also go to Ozarks Food Harvest.

The Food Bank recommends items that are shelf stable for an extended period of time like canned fruit and vegetables, cereal, juice, and peanut butter.
