SPRINGFIELD, Mo.— Local egg producer Opal Foods donated more than 23,400 dozen eggs to Ozarks Food Harvest on April 16 to help feed families facing hunger across the Ozarks.

This gift is Opal Foods 17th Easter season egg donation, bringing their amount donated to more than 4.9 million eggs since 2008.

“We’re so grateful for this egg donation, especially as families facing hunger across a third of the state experience rising food costs,” said Bart Brown, president/CEO of Ozarks Food Harvest. “Opal Foods continues to be such a generous partner, and we’re honored for their support in helping Transform Hunger into Hope.”

Fresh eggs are one of the most requested items from Ozarks Food Harvest’s network of 270 faith-based and community charities due to their high-protein content, nutrition and versatility. The Food
Bank says protein is one of the most expensive items to purchase and secure. One in 5 children and 1 in 6 adults face hunger across The Food Bank’s 28-county service area.

“The Opal Foods team is delighted to mark our 17th year of collaboration with Ozarks Food Harvest during the Easter season,” said Phillip Hutchinson, controller of Opal Foods. “We are equally pleased to provide a wholesome product, rich in protein, to the families of southwest Missouri.”

Opal Foods is a franchisee of Eggland’s Best and produces eggs in Missouri, Colorado and Iowa. The company, headquartered in Neosho, employs over 300 people. The local egg producer worked with Certified Express, Inc. to deliver the eggs to The Food Bank free of charge.
