Opal Foods donates 280,000 eggs to The Food Bank for the 18th year
SPRINGFIELD, Mo.— Local egg producer Opal Foods donated 280,000 eggs, or 23,333 dozen, to Ozarks Food Harvest on April 1 to help feed families facing hunger across the Ozarks.
This gift is Opal Foods’ 18th Easter season egg donation, bringing their amount donated to more than 5.1 million eggs since 2008.
“We’re grateful for this generous donation, especially as neighbors in southwest Missouri continue to face rising prices, making it difficult for folks to access nutritious food like eggs,” said Bart Brown, president and CEO of Ozarks Food Harvest. “Opal Foods continues to be such a great partner, and we’re so thankful for their support in helping Transform Hunger into Hope.”
Fresh eggs are one of the most requested items from Ozarks Food Harvest’s network of 270 faith-based and community charities due to their high-protein content, nutrition and versatility. Protein is also one of the most expensive items for The Food Bank to purchase. One in 5 children and 1 in 6 adults experience food insecurity across The Food Bank’s 28-county service area.
“Opal Foods is proud to celebrate our 18th year supporting the Ozarks Food Harvest during the Easter season,” said Kurt Nelson, EVP – Sales & Marketing of Opal Foods. “Our partnership provides the opportunity to further nourish the families and communities which we serve with responsibly produced, protein-rich eggs.”
Opal Foods is a franchisee of Eggland’s Best and produces eggs in Missouri, Colorado, Iowa, and Minnesota. The company, headquartered in Neosho, employs over 600 people. The local egg producer worked with Certified Express, Inc. to deliver the eggs to The Food Bank free of charge.
