Ozarks Food Harvest and Walmart launch Fight Hunger. Spark Change. campaign to combat hunger in the Ozarks

Walmart offers multiple ways for customers to donate to The Food Bank through May 20

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. — One in five children and one in seven adults in the Ozarks struggle with hunger. To raise awareness and combat the issue, Walmart, Sam’s Club, Feeding America and Ozarks Food Harvest are kicking off the sixth annual nationwide Fight Hunger. Spark Change. campaign online and in stores.

Through May 20, customers can make a $1, $2 or $5 donation at the register or purchase specially-marked products to help provide a monetary donation to The Food Bank.

“We are so appreciative of the Fight Hunger. Spark Change. campaign because Walmart and Sam’s Club locations make it simple for customers to donate during their shopping trips,” said Bart Brown, president/CEO of Ozarks Food Harvest. “And with every dollar that’s donated, we’re able to provide $10 worth of food and services to families facing hunger.”

The campaign will help The Food Bank provide meals through its 270 hunger-relief partners including food pantries, homeless shelters and schools.

“As we go into our sixth year of the Fight Hunger. Spark Change. campaign, it’s exciting to approach the 1 billion mark in terms of charitable meals secured for Feeding America over the life of the program,” said Kathleen McLaughlin, chief sustainability officer for Walmart. “Food insecurity continues to affect communities across the United States. Working with Feeding America, our customers, members, associates and suppliers, Walmart and Sam’s Club aim to be part of the solution.”

Last year, Walmart’s campaign raised nearly $157,000 to provide 628,000 meals for children, families and seniors in southwest Missouri. For more information on the campaign, visit
