Ozarks Food Harvest to announces Feinstein Challenge

February 26, 2007

SPRINGFIELD, Mo.— Ozarks Food Harvest will participate in the tenth annual Feinstein Challenge March 1 – April 30, 2007, to receive a share of $1 million given away by Rhode Island philanthropist Alan Feinstein of the Feinstein Foundation.

Each year, Ozarks Food Harvest makes an appeal to all donors to contribute monetary or food donations during these two spring months because the more donations The Food Bank receives, the more Feinstein money is granted.

All participating non-profit hunger relief agencies throughout the country will get their share of the $1 million equal to their proportion of the total amount raised by all participants.

“Fighting hunger is a year-round challenge, but the Feinstein Foundation provides us with a special opportunity to increase awareness during an otherwise low-giving time of the year. It also gives us the chance to challenge schools and businesses within our service area to become involved in this very important effort to fight hunger in our communities. It’s never too late to encourage others to become civically involved, and this is a great way to help them become community minded and sensitive to the needs of others,” Denise Gibson, Director of Development and Communication, said.

Last year, The Food Bank received more than $5,000 of the annual $1 million giveaway to fight hunger, and plans to increase its efforts this year.
