Regional food bank offers matching grants to hunger-relief agencies across the Ozarks

SPRINGFIELD, Mo.— Local hunger-relief agencies have received a dollar-for-dollar matching grant, thanks to a $106,250 gift from the Walmart Foundation to Ozarks Food Harvest.

Forty-nine pantries and 37 feeding sites will receive pass-through grants from Ozarks Food Harvest. The agencies will have until Feb. 28 to fundraise in their own communities to receive the dollar-for-dollar matching grant.

“Each year presents a wonderful opportunity for our member agencies to obtain nutritious food with these grant dollars,” said Bart Brown, president/CEO of Ozarks Food Harvest. “This is the ninth year that we have participated, and we are so thankful for Walmart’s generosity that allows our agencies to feed more children, families and seniors in need.”

Since 2010, Ozarks Food Harvest has awarded numerous pass-through grants totaling nearly $1 million from Walmart.

The Walmart Foundation supports nonprofits that create opportunities so people can live better and awards grants that have a lasting impact on communities across the U.S.

Ozarks Food Harvest was the first food bank in Missouri to award grants to its partner nonprofits and has been recognized nationally for its efforts. In its last fiscal year, Ozarks Food Harvest provided $164,186 in agency grants.

Walmart and the Walmart Foundation have committed to providing 4 billion meals to those in need by 2020 through grants and food donations from Walmart stores, Sam’s Clubs and distribution centers. In addition, since 2005, Walmart and the Walmart Foundation have invested more than $100 million in Feeding America to provide charitable meals, infrastructure and other programs.
