SPRINGFIELD, Mo.— Ozarks Food Harvest and Alice@95.5 will host the 9th annual Hungerthon, a four day event to increase awareness about the surprising faces of hunger in the Ozarks, while raising money for the food bank’s distribution efforts and direct relief programs, on Friday, June 1 through Monday, June 4, 2007 in front of the Historic Tower Theater in Springfield.

Alice@95.5 listeners can call the pledge line at (417) 577-7955 on Friday, June 1 from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m., Saturday, June 3 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., Sunday, June 4 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. and Monday, June 5 from 6 a.m. to 10 a.m. to make a donation to support Ozarks Food Harvest’s vital hunger relief efforts. Many listeners choose to sponsor a child’s backpack in the Food For Thought™ children’s feeding program. Supporters can also come to the Historic Tower Theater during Hungerthon 2007 to make a donation, learn about the food bank, or meet the on-air celebrities. Donations can also be made online at ozarksfoodharvest.org.

Springfield Independent Restaurant Association (SIRA) will partner with Ozarks Food Harvest and Alice@95.5 for the fourth year to make challenge grants to listeners and give away gift certificates to the highest donors during each “Power Hour” to further motivate listeners to make a pledge. Last year’s Hungerthon raised a record-breaking $109,000.

The food bank will also be at the Springfield Cardinals ballgames on Saturday, June 2 and Sunday, June 3 collecting cash and food donations, while American Family Insurance will hand out give-aways to food bank supporters.

Ozarks Food Harvest hosts these events annually in conjunction with National Hunger Awareness Day, a day to raise awareness about hunger in America and the work of food banks and their agencies such as pantries. The 6th annual Hunger Awareness Day is Tuesday, June 5, 2007, and this year’s theme is The Face of Hunger Will Surprise You.
