Panera Bread & Five Pound Apparel are Wearing Out Hunger for OFH

January 31, 2013

Supporters can purchase a t-shirt through Feb. 28 or dine at Panera on Second Fridays in 2013 to help feed hungry families

WHO:  Panera Bread cafés in Springfield, Branson and Joplin, along with Five Pound Apparel located in downtown Springfield, will announce a partnership with the region’s only food bank to help raise awareness and funds for children’s feeding programs, at a news conference next Friday morning.

WHAT:  Panera Bread will donate a portion of select menu purchases to Ozarks Food Harvest’s Weekend Backpack Program on the Second Friday of every month, beginning Friday, Feb. 8*. Panera associates will help raise awareness of hunger by sporting t-shirts designed and donated by Five Pound Apparel. The Wearing Out Hunger t-shirts — made available to the public Feb. 8–28 only, with proceeds benefiting The Food Bank — will be unveiled with more details at the news conference.

WHEN:  Friday, Feb. 8 at 10:00 a.m.

WHERE:  Panera Bread, 3738 S. Campbell Ave., Springfield, Mo.

WHY:  One in four children in southwest Missouri is food insecure, meaning they do not always have access to food at home. Ozarks Food Harvest’s Weekend Backpack Program is one way to fuel these kids with food and hope. For every shirt purchased, The Food Bank can provide 36 meals to area kids in need.

*Panera kicks off the first Second Friday of 2013 on Feb. 8 by donating $2 for each Spinach Power Salad, $1 for each Fat-Free Superfruit Power Smoothie & $1 for each Breakfast Power Sandwich sold. Donations go to OFH’s Weekend Backpack Program which provides food to at-risk children every weekend of the school year, when they would otherwise go hungry.
