SGC Foodservice provides Ozarks Food Harvest with fresh produce and protein

The regional foodservice supplier will provide boxes of fresh USDA food for families in need in Missouri

SPRINGFIELD, Mo.— SGC Foodservice is partnering with Ozarks Food Harvest and the five other Feeding America food banks serving Missouri to provide fresh food boxes through the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) Farmers to Families Food Box Program.

The Farmers to Families Food Box Program falls under the USDA’s Coronavirus Farm Assistance Program, which aims to keep food industry workers employed and provide people in need with access to food. The pre-packaged boxes contain fresh produce, dairy, pre-cooked meats and are delivered at no cost to nonprofit locations. There are no eligibility restrictions (such as income) for people who receive food boxes.

SGC Foodservice, a regional foodservice supplier headquartered in Springfield, Mo., won the bid to supply USDA boxes of food to Missouri’s network of six regional food banks, including Ozarks Food Harvest. The boxes will be distributed through Ozarks Food Harvest’s existing agencies and Mobile Food Pantries.

“SGC Foodservice has a long heritage of philanthropic support for Ozarks Food Harvest and food banks across the communities they serve,” said Bart Brown, president/CEO of Ozarks Food Harvest. “We are thrilled to partner with them to distribute nutritious, fresh food to families across the state.”

Ozarks Food Harvest is working to meet the increased demand for food and is asking the community for help with rising costs. The Food Bank distributed more than 2.2 million pounds of food through its network of 270 food pantries, feeding sites and Mobile Food Pantries in April.
