The Food Bank will distribute the chicken to its network of 270 hunger-relief organizations across 28 counties

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. — Thanks to Smart Chicken’s 19th annual Smart Giving Holiday Challenge campaign, Ozarks Food Harvest will receive more than 7,000 pounds of chicken this holiday season.

Smart Chicken’s Smart Giving Holiday Challenge donates 10 percent of poultry purchased at various retailers in November to Ozarks Food Harvest. Participating retailers include Apple Market, Country Mart, Food 4 Less, G&W Foods, Harter House, Price Cutter, Town and Country and Woods Supermarket.

“We’re thankful for Smart Chicken’s protein donation just in time for the holiday season,” said Bart Brown,
president/CEO of Ozarks Food Harvest. “Many families continue to face the lingering economic effects of COVID-19 such as increased food prices and utilities. This donation will help continue our work to get the community in southwest Missouri on the road to recovery.”

In The Food Bank’s service area, 1 in 5 children and 1 in 6 adults face hunger. Ozarks Food Harvest—the Feeding America food bank for southwest Missouri— reaches nearly 30,000 individuals weekly and provides more than 23 million meals annually across its 28-county service area.

“We appreciate our local grocers for encouraging their customers to help with our Smart Giving Holiday Challenge,” said Joe Horvath, account manager of Smart Chicken. “We’re so happy to be able to give back to our community during the holiday season.”

Since 2004, Ozarks Food Harvest has received more than 140,000 pounds of poultry from Smart Chicken.
