Springfield Chapter of Credit Unions Collects Food for Hunger-relief

May 19, 2006

SPRINGFIELD, Mo.– Thanks to the food drive Springfield Chapter of Credit Unions held on May 10th, Ozarks Food Harvest has 1,304 pounds of food to distribute to their 300 charitable food assistance partners.

The types of organizations served by Ozarks Food Harvest include emergency food pantries, soup kitchens, group homes, homeless shelters, senior meal sites, and Kids Cafe® sites. Food drives are a vital part of the Ozarks Food Harvest’s ability to provide necessities to tens of thousands of people. In these challenging times, the Springfield Chapter of Credit Unions wanted to help the many families in the Ozarks that need food assistance.

The Springfield Chapter of Credit Unions is comprised of eight credit unions in the community.  This year, the chapter will be offering more than 25 financial education events, covering a wide variety of subjects, including several ongoing programs for both adults and youth. The food the Springfield Chapter of Credit Unions collected was very high quality, so Ozarks Food Harvest was able to immediately send it out to the organizations who can distribute it straight to the many individuals in need in Southwest Missouri and North Central Arkansas.
