WHAT:  Scouting for Food Boy Scouts to drop off food donations

WHERE:  Ozarks Food Harvest warehouse, 615 N. Glenstone

WHEN:  Saturday, March 10, 2007 between 9 a.m. – 2 p.m.

SPRINGFIELD, Mo.— More than 70 southwest Missouri Boy Scout troops will collect food donations from community neighborhoods on Saturday, March 10, 2007, to benefit Ozarks Food Harvest and thousands of hungry people in the Ozarks.

Boy Scouts distributed specially marked grocery bags provided by Price Cutter Supermarkets throughout neighborhoods across 29 Missouri counties on Saturday, March 3, 2007, according to Jerry Gardner of Boy Scouts of America. The scouts return to the neighborhoods one week later, Saturday, March 10, 2007, to gather the bags of food donations to deliver to Ozarks Food Harvest’s warehouse.

For 18 years, Ozarks Boy Scouts have conducted the Scouting for Food food drive, which collects more than 10,000 pounds of food annually for Ozarks Food Harvest, according to Denise Gibson, Development Director for The Food Bank.

Gibson said, “Ozarks Food Harvest is proud of these Boy Scouts, who every year, help put food on the tables for families in our area that need support, while discovering the value of helping others. This year, the Boy Scouts are also learning about hunger and the devastating effects it has on the 164,000 people in the Ozarks who live in poverty.”

Community members who do not receive a Scouting for Food bag, can contribute to the Boy Scouts project by bringing donations marked for the scouts to Ozarks Food Harvest at 615 N. Glenstone on or by March 10.
