Turkey Trot collects food for Ozarks Food Harvest

SPRINGFIELD, Mo.— The Springfield-Greene County Parks and Recreation Board announced its annual Turkey Trot Thanksgiving Day 5K Run/Walk, will again collect nonperishable food items for Ozarks Food Harvest on Thursday, November 22, 2007.

Last year, Turkey Trot collected 3,446 pounds of nonperishable goods for Ozarks Food Harvest.

“The donation from the Springfield-Greene County Parks Board last year was a very sizeable contribution to the food bank. We appreciate everyone who takes part in Turkey Trot to help us end the solvable problem of hunger here in the Ozarks,” Denise Gibson, Development Director for Ozarks Food Harvest, said.

According to the food bank, 150,000 people live in poverty in the Ozarks, and 50,000 are children. The Food Bank distributes more than four million pounds of food annually to its network of 323 hunger relief agencies across 29 Ozarks counties.
