Tyson Foods donating 40,000 pounds of chicken to Ozarks Food Harvest

Donation to be made in the name of McDonald’s Dining to Give Back fundraiser

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. — Ozarks Food Harvest will receive a large donation of protein this Friday from Tyson Foods, Inc. in honor of the McDonald’s of the Ozarks Dining to Give Back campaign.

Tyson Foods, Inc., the supplier of chicken for McDonald’s of the Ozarks, will donate 40,000 pounds of chicken breast filets to help feed families struggling with hunger in southwest Missouri. Tyson Foods has donated more than 438,000 pounds of chicken to The Food Bank since 2008.

Dining to Give Back took place on Dec. 4 from 4-7 p.m. Area McDonald’s stores donated 20 percent of proceeds to Ozarks Food Harvest to help provide meals for people facing hunger this winter. Every dollar donated from the campaign will help provide four meals. A total of 19 stores participated across Springfield, Strafford, Nixa, Republic, Ozark, Mount Vernon and Willard.

From 2008 to 2017, McDonald’s of the Ozarks hosted the fundraiser Cans for Coffee which collected more than 215,000 meals for food-insecure individuals in the Ozarks. And in 2018, McDonald’s locations hosted Coffee for a Cause, which helped provide 38,400 meals.

“We are so grateful for our relationship with McDonald’s and Tyson and for how they both give back to the community,” said Denise Gibson, development and communication director at Ozarks Food Harvest. “Year after year, they come through to help provide meals and an important source of protein for families struggling to make ends meet during the winter.”

The donation will take place at Ozarks Food Harvest, located at 2810 N. Cedarbrook Ave, tomorrow at 10 a.m.
