Tyson Foods donating truckload of protein to Ozarks Food Harvest

Donation to be made in the name of McDonald’s Cans for Coffee food drive for 9th consecutive year

WHO: Ozarks Food Harvest will receive a large donation of protein in honor of the annual McDonald’s of the Ozarks Cans for Coffee food drive, which begins today, Aug. 29. Ozarks Food Harvest is the only food bank in southwest Missouri, distributing more than 14.6 million meals annually to 200 nonprofit agencies.

WHAT: Tyson Foods, Inc. will donate 40,000 pounds of chicken to Ozarks Food Harvest in the name of the ninth annual McDonald’s Cans for Coffee food drive at more than 60 restaurants in 40 Ozarks communities. The donation consists of 1,000 cases of chicken pattie fritters and 1,000 cases of chicken breast filet fritters. Tyson Foods has donated more than 240,000 pounds of frozen chicken to The Food Bank during Cans for Coffee since 2008.

WHEN: Wednesday, Aug. 31, at 10:30 a.m.

WHERE: Ozarks Food Harvest, O’Reilly Center for Hunger Relief, 2810 N. Cedarbrook Ave., Springfield, Mo.

WHY: This donation is in honor of the McDonald’s Cans for Coffee food drive for The Food Bank. The drive encourages community members to donate a nonperishable food item at participating McDonald’s of the Ozarks locations, and in exchange donors receive one free small McCafé beverage through Sept. 25. Since 2008, McDonald’s of the Ozarks has collected more than 201,600 pounds of food — 168,000 meals — from community members through Cans for Coffee.
