Walmart and Sam’s Club help address food insecurity in the Ozarks through Fight Hunger. Spark Change. campaign

May 2, 2022

Since 2010, the campaign has helped provide more than 4 million meals for Ozarks Food Harvest

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. — Walmart and Sam’s Club will help Ozarks Food Harvest address food insecurity in the Ozarks this spring through the ninth annual Fight Hunger. Spark Change. campaign.

The nationwide campaign matches each Walmart and Sam’s Club store to one of the 200 Feeding America member food banks to help fundraise for hunger relief. The campaign runs in store and online from April 18 through May 15. There are three ways to help support families facing hunger through the campaign.

“In the third year of the COVID-19 pandemic, Ozarks Food Harvest and the families we serve continue to feel the economic impact of inflation and supply chain disruptions,” said Bart Brown, president/CEO of Ozarks Food Harvest. “That’s why we’re grateful for our continued partnership with Walmart, Sam’s Club and their suppliers. For every $1 donation we receive, we can turn it into $10 worth of groceries.”

Over the last two years, Ozarks Food Harvest has provided 44 million meals across its 28-county service area, purchased $6.3 million worth of food and distributed 2 million meals through Mobile Food Pantry distributions. In The Food Bank’s service area, 1 in 5 children and 1 in 6 adults face hunger.

“Hunger knows no boundaries and affects all of our communities. For the ninth year, Walmart and Sam’s Club invites our customers, members and suppliers to join us in the fight against hunger and help neighbors in need by participating in the Fight Hunger. Spark Change. campaign,” said Kathleen McLaughlin, executive vice president and chief sustainability officer at Walmart and president of the Walmart Foundation. “Together, we can help communities live better by expanding access to healthy, nutritious food.”

Since 2010, the Fight Hunger. Spark Change. campaign has raised more than $1 million for Ozarks Food Harvest to provide more than 4 million meals for children, families and seniors in southwest Missouri.
