Ozarks Food Harvest encouraging member pantries to apply for pass-through matching grants for food

WHAT:  Ozarks Food Harvest expects to receive more than $100,000 from the Walmart Foundation State Giving Program later this week and plans to make an announcement at The Food Bank.

WHEN:  Thursday, August 8 at 10:00 a.m.

WHERE:  O’Reilly Center for Hunger Relief, 2810 N. Cedarbrook Ave., Springfield, Mo.

WHY:  The regional food bank for 250 pantries and agencies across the Ozarks will use the funds as a matching grant opportunity, potentially leveraging the gift to $250,000 — the equivalent of 1.5 million meals for southwest Missouri children, families and seniors in need. This is the fourth gift of this size from the Walmart Foundation that Ozarks Food Harvest has utilized as pass-through grants for its partners working on the frontlines of hunger relief in southwest Missouri.

WHO:  Local nonprofits will be invited to apply for grants from Ozarks Food Harvest for bulk food and food distribution. Two of these organizations will be available for interview Thursday morning as they receive monthly food donations for their charities. Volunteers will also be on-site, in the warehouse, loading the pantries’ vehicles with boxes of food.
